This 110-piece stained glass panel was commissioned by a former colleague to replace a cherished wedding present that was irreparably damaged when he moved to a new house. The title of this work reflects how the new panel transcends the original faux stained glass work by raising both its design and construction to a superior state.
The central two-thirds of the new panel exactly duplicate the size and colour scheme of the original panel (see photos), although some redundant lead lines were removed to strengthen the construction. The curved top and new rectangular elements on the left and right sides were added to match the proportions of the window where the panel is displayed, while additional circles were introduced to represent the family's growth since the wedding (which now numbers six people). Finally, the colour palette of the panel was increased by adding yellow and new shades of green and blue, which were arranged to give a pleasing balance of colours and clear glass.
